August 9, Saturday 9:30am – 11:30am Adult Program

Screen-writer Neil Landau will share his knowledge of screenwriting and the industry. He has been a screen writer and playwright in Hollywood for more than 15 years and teaches screen writing at UCLA School of Theater Film and Television. He has numerous TV and film credits, including the cult teen comedy "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead," MTV's "Undressed," "Melrose Place," and "The Magnificent Seven." Landau writes: “This 2-hour lecture/workshop will focus on story structure and character development in movies. My approach is how characters will (ideally) evolve over the course of the plot, and how to build to a resonant, satisfying climax that is both cathartic and unpredictable.”

Meeting overview and wiki announcement

Hello all~

We had a smallish but quite fun AkLA-J meeting last week, with Maeghan Kearney teaching us the intricacies of iTunes and PodPickle, among other resources. I don't know about the rest, but I feel better equiped to face my iPod now. Katie Fearer graciously agreed to keep the notes, but I just wanted to point out a few highlights:

* We've created a new wiki. I hope that it will make it easier for us to share information and keep things current. You can find it at http://juneauchapter.pbwiki.com/FrontPage. Anyone can see it. To post, you'll need a key: aklaj. Please feel free to share this with anyone from the chapter, but don't share it elsewhere. Currently, our first couple of Publicity Tips of the Month are on the wiki, but watch for news, CE slides and handouts, and more.

* We've gotten some volunteers for upcoming CE. I would welcome more, and also recommendation for future Publicity Tips of the Month. Please contact me or post on the wiki to share.

* I forgot to give out the door prize, again. I apologize, folks, and hearby put out this plea: please, help me remember to give out the door prize at the next meeting! I think I even had it on the agenda, but managed to skip it anyway.

* Saving the best for last, our next meeting will be held at the Mendenhall Valley Library, August 11th, at 5:30 pm. We'll start our discussion of items for me to take to E-Council in September, so please start thinking about what's important to you, especially if it might cost money or impact the statewide association

Sounds like a great training. A few of us at JPL did a podcasting
training through OCLC in the fall, I'm looking forward to creating
podcasts for all this year's programs. Would love to attend but will be
training our resident mall-rats on cell-phone etiquette and advising
them how to dodge the new army recruiter who has set up shop next to
bullwinkles at the Mendenhall Valley Library.

As an aside, congrats Maeghan, I also finished my MLS in June.
