Hello Catalogers,

I am happy to serve as this year’s Chair of the AkLA Cataloging Roundtable. A big thank-you goes to our out-going Chair, Julie Niederhauser, for her work this past year and for her success in obtaining an Alaska Interlibrary Cooperative Grant for the serials cataloging workshop to be held in Anchorage this June. (By the way, you may apply for travel money.)

There are several things to watch out for in the coming year.

At the AkLA 2010 Conference in Anchorage we will have a speaker, Nancy MacKay, whose interests lie in oral history and in various areas of librarianship besides cataloging. This should be of interest to those planning on organizing oral history projects.

And, if all goes as it seems—and we never know—the year 2010 could be the big year for RDA, Resource Description and Access, the successor to AACR2. Currently, LC is spearheading an RDA test cataloging project which should be evaluated later this year.

I hope to see you all at the Conference in Anchorage this March.
