Hi Ed, I would be interested in a subject headings workshop at the intermediate level. Topics of interest include learning more about genre headings and how and when to use them; a refresher on the proper use of pattern headings; when to use a geographic heading as opposed to or in addition to a subfield "z"; and any updates or current trends in legal subject cataloging. Thanks for working on this! -- Beth

Subject: [Catalog List] Quick Survey on Cataloging Topics at AkLA 2010

(This is a Catalog List message, replies will go to the whole list.)

Hello Alaska Catalogers,

The AkLA Cataloging Roundtable is attempting to invite a speaker from the Library of Congress when the AkLA conference meets in Anchorage next March. I would like to ask anyone who may be attending a couple questions in order to help us prepare.

  1. We are planning to have a two-day pre-conference workshop on Library of Congress Subject Headings. If you are interested in this workshop, what level of LC subject heading analysis are you are most interested in (beginning level, intermediate, etc.) ?
  2. If we are able to schedule an informational presentation on cataloging during the conference, what topic in the area of subject headings, genre headings, or LC classification would you like the most to hear about? Or perhaps there is another cataloging-related topic you are more interested in?

Thank you,

Ed Kazzimir, Vice-Chair Cataloging Roundtable Alaska Resources Library and Information Services (ARLIS)
