If your library has rare cultural items or books that are treasures of
your culture, you might be interested in this message from the Alaska
State Library in Juneau. If you have any questions, please see the
contact information for Aja Razumny below. She will be glad to help
you.
If you know of another agency that is not a library that might have a
valuable collection, you might want to pass this information on to
someone there.

Here is a little more background and information that may help answer
some questions about the preservation workshop. Thanks for spreading the
word.
The Alaska Library Association is holding their annual conference in
Fairbanks this year, and we are piggy-backing Protecting Library &
Archive Collections: Disaster Preparedness, Response & Recovery on it as
a 'preconference', open to anyone. Workshop attendees do NOT need to pay
the AkLA Conference one-day registration fee to attend the Preservation
pre-conference, but WILL have to pre-register and pay $15.50 for the box
lunch. (You just cannot attend any other AkLA Conference events without
a regular conference registration.) To sign up, you might well have to
do a paper registration and fax it in, because the online registration
isn't set up to handle this exception. The registration form is on page
9 of the program booklet
http://www.akla.org/fairbanks2008/regbooklet.pdf
There will be a Part 2 of the preservation training offered in
Fairbanks, date to be determined
Part 1 of the workshop will be repeated in Juneau on April 9, 2008 &
Anchorage on April 11, 2008. (contact Arlene Schmuland
arlene@uaa.alaska.edu for details about the Anchorage sessions)
The second half of the training for Juneau and Anchorage will be held at
a later, date TBD.
General information about the AkLA conference is at
http://www.akla.org/fairbanks2008/index.php
and includes info about signing up for the workshop. Please let anyone
with questions feel free to contact me.
