Dear Anchorage Library Colleague:

If you are passionate about the importance of libraries in community life, then please mark your calendar for first-ever legislative candidate forum and reception hosted by the Anchorage Chapter of the Alaska Library Association!

We need a big turnout to make sure that our current and future legislators know that their active support for libraries is essential to a large group of committed Anchorage voters.

Forum and reception details:

Date: Sunday September 21, 2008

Forum: 6 - 7 PM

Wine and cheese reception: 7 - 7:30 PM (or so)

Location: UAA Consortium Library, Room 307

Note: Parking is free at UAA on the weekends

The purpose of this forum is to give legislative candidates an opportunity to address issues that affect libraries, library users and library staff in Anchorage. While we have sent invitations to every legislative candidate from Anchorage and Eagle River, we expect to host only about 20 candidates. In order to give each candidate an opportunity to speak, we are planning on having each candidate draw questions about library issues out of a hat. The news media will be invited to the event.

Please plan to attend this forum and feel free to bring your spouse or anyone else who is significant to you. Mollie Bynum, Claire Stockert, and I are planning this event. We believe that this forum will be a great opportunity to educate candidates about issues facing the community of Anchorage library users and to educate library supporters about candidates' views on libraries.

As an additional incentive, we will be offering door prizes.
