What fun!  I love reading about Ester's creative fundraisers, but I think that this one tops them all.  I may have to borrow the idea for the Juneau chapter's next Publicity Tip of the Month.

Readers on the Run!

Join us for this fun 5-kilometer footrace and poetry composition
contest and fundraiser on Sunday, October 12! The race will start and
end at the new John Trigg Ester Library grounds, looping through west
Ester and the Tailings. Contestants will be judged on times and
literary compositions, with extra credit for costumes. Come test your
mind and body and help raise funds for the Ester library!

Date & Location:
Sunday, October 12, Village Road, Ester

Rules:
Entry/registration fee: $10
Late registration: $15 (Oct. 10 through day of race)
Race day registration starts at the starting point at 9 am
Registration forms are available on line at www.esterlibr html

T-shirts available for entrants at race, entrants pay $10 for first
shirt, $15 each additional (extras available to the public on first-
come, first-serve basis after entrants have purchased their shirts).
The logo is designed by local cartoonist Dan Darrow. Limited
quantities of sweatshirts also available.

Check-in time: 10 am
Race start: 11 am

Race starts at library grounds and makes three loops on the race
course for a total of 5 kilometers. After each loop, runners/walkers
stop at the library grounds poetry table, take a handful of magnetic
poetry words, and assemble poems or a short prose piece out of the
magnetic poetry. Contestants are given exactly one minute to compose
their literary segment from the time they withdraw their hand from the
bag. Contestants then proceed on to the next loop. Volunteers will
copy down the literary composition, adding the next BR>time around, to create each entrant's magnetic poetry composition.
Compositions may be submitted as one three-part piece, or three
separate pieces. At the conclusion of the race, literary pieces will
be judged in a separate category. Marjorie Kowalski Cole, author of
Correcting the Landscape and winner of the Bellweather Prize for
Literature, will serve as the magnetic poetry judge.

Award categories include: top times by age group; top literary
compositions (children/adults); best costume.
